General Carbon Race Details

The Carbon race is a one-of-a-kind event combining challenging trail running and popular Crossfit-style workouts.  The total distance of each Carbon event will vary, but will range between 3-5 miles depending on the venue.  Throughout the short course loop, you will be put to the test with at least four different metcons (each for time), tough terrain, and a challenging medball carry.  Specifics of the Carbon course will vary depending on the venue.  A final race-day program, details of the metcons, movement standards, and course map will be released two weeks before the race.

When will the metcons and course map be released for the event?

We will be providing you with important updates from the moment you register until race day. However, we will have a final course map, list of metcons, and movement standards sent out to all registered participants at least two weeks prior to the event. Each Carbon event will be unique so that you'll never have the same Carbon experience twice.

What is the distance of the loop?

The distance of the course will vary depending on the venue, but will range between 4-6 miles. A course map will be sent out two weeks before the race date showing the details of the course loop. Expect anywhere from 1-3 hours to complete the course.

What will the venue/start area be like?

We promise to deliver a top-notch experience and that begins with an excellent venue. Our starting area will include great music, a live updated scoreboard, awesome food/water from our sponsors, giveaways for spectators, yard games and activities, excellent visibility for spectators, plenty of porta-potties, a running clock, and a fully supportive staff.

Do spectators have to pay to watch?

Nope, that would be ridiculous. Spectators are free, but they must park in the spectator parking area. This info will be given as the date of the event gets closer.

Will I have to pay for parking?

Since we use local areas for parking, a $10 parking fee per person is included as part of the entry cost. No additional costs are assessed or required after you register for the event.

Where is packet pickup?

Packet pickup will be on race day at the team check-in table. From there, you will be given your wristbands and directed to where your team base is.

Are there different divisions? What are the details of the awards?

In Carbon, there are 4 different divisions: Male Rx, Female Rx, Male Scaled, Female Scaled. Only the Rx division will be eligible for prize money and podium awards. Scaled division top finishers will still have the opportunity to win gear for a top finish. See our "award details" page for more info.

What about refunds if I'm unable to compete?

While we do not give full refunds for events, we will allow you to transfer your registration or receive a registration code for any future Carbon event. In the case of an Carbon event needing to be rescheduled, all current registrations will automatically be changed to the new date.

How many aid stations will there be?

This will also vary depending on the location and course, but we guarantee a large aid station at the start/finish area along with at least 3 aid stations along the course.

Is there an age requirement to participate?

Due to the challenging nature of the event, all participants must be 16 years of age or older by the event date in order to participate.

What is included in my registration fee?

A whole lot of stuff: -Parking and Shuttle Transportation (if necessary depending on the venue) -Custom DBE Junk Headband -Various swag items -Nutrition items from our sponsors -Finisher awards -Access to well-stocked aid stations -Access to professional event photographs and video (posted on our website one week after event) -Access to our awesome venue area equipped with our electronic leaderboard, free product from local vendors, and great music -A shot at the podium and to win awards in each division -An opportunity to qualify for our Vanta race and have a shot at $2500

When will I receive race-specific details?

A final race-day program containing parking details, venue-specific information, and a final course map will be emailed out two weeks prior to the race date.

What will my start time be and how will timing be recorded?

Carbon will have various heats of up to 15 participants separated by division sent out every 10 minutes. Each participant will be chip timed. We will do our best to place you at your requested heat time selected in registration, but cannot guarantee that everyone will get their desired heat time. Heats for RX male/female athletes start at 7:00 AM and continue until 9:30AM. Heats for Scaled male/female athletes start at 10AM and continue until 12:30PM. For more info, please see the race day schedule available on each event page.

What will be the required movements and weights for the workouts?

Since there will be both an Rx and a Scaled division, the weights and movements will vary between the two groups. The exact details for the movements for both divisions will be sent out with the course map and workout list two weeks before the event. However, so that you know what movements and weights to expect, here is a list of everything that COULD BE included in the event.
